A casting call for a Republican West Virginia campaign ad called for actors with a "'Hicky' Blue Collar look."

The ad "Stop Obama," produced for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, features three men in plain clothes and trucker hats sitting at a diner, complaining about President Obama and West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, the state's Democratic Senate candidate.

Manchin is locked in a tight race against Republican businessman John Raese. CBS News is calling the race a toss up.

According to material provided to CBS by a Democratic source, the ad was shot at the Oregon Diner in Philadelphia. A casting call for the ad reads, "We are going for a 'Hicky' Blue Collar look. These characters are from West Virginia so think coal miner/trucker looks."

The casting call also includes wardrobe suggestions such as jeans, work boots, flannel shirt, denim shirt, "Dickie's type jacket with t-shirt underneath," "John Deer hats (not brand new, preferably beat up)," and "Trucker hats (not brand new, preferably beat up)."

It is a common practice for political parties to use actors in campaign ads, and the NRSC's independent expenditure unit contracted with a GOP consulting firm, Jamestown Associates, to produce the "Stop Obama" ad. Jamestown Associates worked with another outside talent agency in Philadelphia to produce the ad, and the NRSC provided CBS with an e-mail from Jamestown Associates with detailed casting requests that include no references to "hicky" or "blue collar" actors.

"No one at the NRSC, or associated with the NRSC, had anything to do with the language used in this casting call," NRSC spokesperson Brian Walsh said. "We do not support it, and suffice to say, we would encourage our contractors to never work with this outside agency again."

While the NRSC is limited in what it can do about an ad commissioned by the NRSC independent expenditure unit, committee officials are now looking for this ad to be taken out of rotation.

Manchin released a statement this morning saying that Raese insulted the people of West Virginia and should immediately apologize.

"Not only have they been spending millions to try and buy this election with lies and distortions, we can now see once and for all what he and his friends really think of West Virginia and our people," he said. "It's offensive and it only proves that John Raese has spent too much time in the state of Florida, living in his Palm Beach mansion, and doesn't know, understand or respect the great people of this state, and what we stand for."

Raese was similarly criticized in a recent West Virginia News and Sentinel op-ed for showing "complete disregard for West Virginians' opinions," after the Republican candidate reportedly offered cash prizes to West Virginians who produced the most published letters to the editor about Raese.

While Manchin is a popular governor, he has struggled in the polls against Raese, apparently because of his association with national Democrats, who are unpopular in the state. Republicans say the governor has changed his position on issues, such as health care reform, for political purposes.

With respect to the "Stop Obama" ad, the NRSC's Walsh said, "While it's one thing for actors to impersonate someone they're not because it's their job, it is entirely different when a governor is doing that so he can get promoted, as we've seen Joe Manchin do in this campaign."

Totally imbecilic. :D

The old GOP is personified by John McCain - the RINOS, who now run the GOP establishment. The new GOP is propelled by the Tea Party and consists of conservatives.

I hope so.

Will they stay conservative for the next 50 years after next month's elections?

Time will tell.

Its funny when libs make fun of RINOs who are really libs. Libs are so blind to this. They just see party affiliation and if someone is an R, they are to be criticized cause the media tells them to criticize. They are so easily fooled.

The Rs still have way too many liberal/progressives in office. The two *****es in ME come to mind along with McCant, McConnell, and Grammasty.

But the House is going to get a complete change over. And we can only hope the libs are kicked out and real conservatives voted in.

first , you can't work with anyone else...it must be your way or the highway ( or else your a rino)

Leftwing definition of "work with anyone else": vote like we want you to. And everyone is well aware of the actions of the congress under the leftwing extremists for the past two years: shut the opposition out, approve important legislation at 2 am, secret caucuses, use of arcane parliamentary maneuvers to pass things the majority of the country doesn't want, and in general, run things like a cross between a banana republic and a gilbert and sullivan farce.

Hey Rick, I like the way you think.

Libs get upset when Rs don't go along with their socialist crap. The lib media then screams like little sissies..."the party of NO"...and the girlie libs believe whatever the MSM tells them.

I say Hell No to their socialist sh*t...

First its funny you talk about useing arcane rules to pass laws...why was it they used that rule...thats right becuse they only could get 59 votes out of 100 ( vs 41 against it) because of....ding ding ding...survay says...use of Arcane rules to overrule..the majority ( see Dems have the house and Sentate and white house...they are the majority..not you even if you like to think so...you lost all the branches...)

also if you bothered to know anything before you talked...and this would be a shock to me.....you would know I am actually not a Dem...I am a member of the independence party, and we have former members of both parities, and are in the middle...my Candidate for Gov...is a Former Republican, who has the backing and support of our very popular formed Gov ...who was republican as well.

That said, Dems have compromised the hell out of many bills...Republicans have just said no and offered nothing to work with...nothing....

As far as I cam decipher that babble, it reduces to "we the elitist statist snots have control, so we can do anything we want, no matter how undemocratic, weird, unprecedented, or against the wishes of the gun and religion clinging unwashed masses."

I don't give a flaming f___ what you call yourself.

Pure, 112% refined Grade A bullsh_t :D - the dems made ZERO compromise on everything until they lost a senator.

well I can see your worth talking to....so thoughtful

Ok we've established that the Lib dems that are in control don't like Conservatives and don't like Republicans. Alright, I need a liberal to explain to me then why they would pass legislation that the majority of this country didn't want, including Democrat and Republican citizens. Why is it if they are so proud of what they have done that Democrats are running as non Obama supporters, non health care supporters, non stimulus supporters? In my state Elaine Marshall a Democrat is running against all of those things (in fact she has an add out right now claiming her opponent Burr supports these things) with the majority of other Dems doing the same. Bottom line the "screw you America, we're in control" mindset has and will continue to bite the in the butt.

Well as you know I am not a lib...about as far from being a DF lib as is possible. But, I think I can answer for them since I know them so well.

Firstly, some libs including a couple who post here will dispute the fact that Dems are running from Obamacare and BO's socialist policies. Some actually think most Americans want Obamacare. I believe Rogan posted something to this effect last week. You see libs live in a fantasy world so trying to effectively communicate with them can be difficult. Many are delusional and the rest are on drugs...legal and illegal drugs.:D

Secondly, some libs don't give a sh*t what the majority of Americans want. They firmly believe they are right and all others wrong. BO and the Dems exemplify this elitist thinking. Some actually cling to the belief that since BO won in '08 the Dems will win in '10...to them nothing has changed...Pockets posts silliness like this with regularity.

Okay libs...did I get it right?

Does anyone really believe that when the Republicans get back into power they will actually do anything "conservative", like balance the federal budget or put an end to illegal immigration? Do they have any better answers to the challenges we face as a nation than the Democrats do? Will they actually do anything to make the lives of people who really look like this:

image6935617_175x131.jpg

any better?

If you do, I have a bridge for sale, along with some attractive seaside property in Arizona.

Conservatives in Washington have gone the way of the whooping crane. There are a few left, but they're on the endangered species list.

Personally, I'm betting that the Republicans will gain power in the next couple of elections, and won't do anything any different than they did the last time they were in power. Anyone taking bets?
