"Goldman Sachs chief executive Lloyd Blankfein and six other top executives at the bank will not be receiving cash or stock bonuses for 2008, a spokesman said Sunday.

The decision was made by the seven executives themselves, said spokesman Lucas Van Praag, and approved Sunday by the firm's compensation committee. The executives made the decision "because they think it's the right thing to do," Van Praag said."

Now if only congress will follow suit and refuse their automatic pay raise while the rest of the country is losing jobs, it would be even better.

U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell .... introduced legislation last year intended to block an automatic pay raise that members of Congress get every year. Alas, his House colleagues refused to hear the bill, so Mitchell and every other member of the House got a $4,100 pay bump. Mitchell donated his pay increase to 10 local charities in $410 bundles, and co-sponsored new legislation with Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, to block next year’s pay increase.
