My grandfather was a Methodist preacher, and he had several dozen books on Homiletics, which tells preachers how to prepare sermons, and is sometimes linked to specific religious holidays an events (Easter, Christmas. Whitsuntide, Lent and such). When specific Biblical verses are linked to the sermon, most of the Old Testament is ignored (especially slavery, genocide, the murder of entire populations).
Here is a verse that one rarely gets mentioned, were Jesus tells us to hate our parents. Observe the many ways that Bible translators have warped the actual meaning.
