Here is an interesting thought for you:

American consumers have been encouraged to spend their way to ecconomic recovery as a virtual sign of patriotism and citizenship.

This has meant that America owes China roughly $1trillon - China uses this liquidity to establish itself on the world markets, buying into lots of different companies via private equity firms.

In the mean time Islamic groups destabilise the key oil producing region in the Middle East, and most of the rest of the world's oil is held in trust by regimes that think civil liberties are ancient history.

This in turn allows Russia to generate huge revenues for a clique of oligarchs, and estblish a tzarish regime in all but name, which has decided to play hard ball with their energy supplies.

In the mean time America decides that it will be a wonderful idea to go off and play soldiers in two Muslim countries in order to secure their future energy supplies for the next 10 - 20 years.

This in turn further destablises an already fragile system, causing most of the rest of the world to turn against America and her allies.

The war also means that America is borrowing more money than ever to fund the war, which in turn devalues the dollar, and makes Americans more insular than ever, which in turn blinds them to...

China and Russia to spend their new found wealth on making friends and influencing African/South America countries. China is spending a fortune on securing new oil reserves in Africa, which will mean in 5 -10 years cheap oil in the states will be a thing of the past.

Which means that technically it is American consumers that are helping to fuel China & Russia's wealth, and their own eventually decline and possible subserviance. If this is a sign of patriotism, then my name is GW.

Oh, and by alienating a certain Venezualan President the Americans are sacrificing an allie in the name of ego and bravado.
