The Bush Recession (worst economic downturn since The Great Depression) is officially over and now this good news just hit!

GDP Advance Q4 Estimates show GDP increased by 5.7%, the highest such figure since the third quarter of 2003, more than the expected 4.7% increase.

First, let's see if it holds up to the test of time, it's only a projection. Second, GDP includes government spending. Hopefully, the 5.7% increase includes some real private sector growth, which has been lagging. Third--jobs. A jobless recovery would not sweeten the mood of the people, nor would it help us really turn the corner and enter a new period of prosperity. And finally, inflation. Once the economy starts to recover is when the risk of inflation from all that borrowing will be significant. So, yes, we should celebrate, but I'm not breaking out the wine and dancing on the tables just yet.

And no, this isn't a bash Obama post, just reality. I think this economic downturn was a societal event--caused by individual, organizational, and political greed writ large. I don't think Obama's policies have helped much, but they certainly didn't cause it, either.

Well I do not know if a recovery is coming, but my instinct tells me Marxists do not oversee economic recovery.

What I do know is, I work with many small business owners and they are scared sh*tless of BO.

well thank god we had the "capitalist" here for 8 years to take that surplus and make it debt and watch the econ fall apart....

I'm not sure I'd call Bush a shining example of a capitalist. He did try to reign in Freddie and Fannie but ran into bipartisan opposition. Like I've said before, this economic downturn was a societal event.... It transcended parties.

The last economic numbers were revised downward twice and the "growth" was found to be government spending, not private sector growth. This 5.7% number will also be revised down and we will also find out how much of that "growth" is government spending and how much is private sector. It was already reported that much of the "growth" was from inventory, which is short term.

Bush was a progressive just like BO only pockets has yet to learn this. He is still stuck in the R bad D good mentality, when both are bad except the Ds are really really bad.

and the Dow dipped another 50some pts.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The economy boomed at the end of 2009, growing at the fastest rate in more than six years. Now if only it could keep it up.

The economy expanded at an annual rate of 5.7 percent in the fourth quarter, the second straight quarter of growth. But analysts warn it's unsustainable.

Consumer spending, chilled by double-digit unemployment and scant wage gains, remains weak. And the benefits of government aid and higher company output to feed stockpiles will dwindle.

Many analysts predict gross domestic product will expand at a rate closer to 2.5 to 3 percent in the current quarter and 2.5 percent or less for the year.

Once again empty pockets you misrepresent our posts.

Its not 99% of the US, its more like 50-70% of the political class who are progressives. The American people are predominately conservatives and moderates. And, they are waking up to the progressive agenda and the consequences for your side are ugly.

Very few Americans are progressives like you.

Of course they'll ignore it or try some feeble way to dismiss it. Here's a hint though... good means good...;)
