Gitmo, gitclosed

Just to be clear. You DO realize Obama inherited the problem from Bushco don't you?

Suddenly this is "Obama's mess" eh? And if he'd only just leave Gitmo open and the Constitution ripped apart at its foundation (due process) AND leave our armed servicepeople open to the same treatment when they are siezed by the enemy, everything would be alright, right?

Can't blame a spinbot for trying..

Um... well we don't see it that way.

Did Bush close gitmo while not having any place to put combatants? No he did not.

Obama closed gitmo without having a place to put people that should not be allowed to go free.

This is a classic liberal problem. Let's enact a feel good problematic non-solution, and then not know what to do with the consquences of that choice.

Here's a question for you. If all those detainees and captured combatants are all just completely innocent bystanders who did nothing wrong, and were not fighting with terrorist and terrorist supporting organizations... than answer the question, why did the EU and UK so quickly say they don't want them there?

Explain that. If the whole world was against us supposedly "abusing" these sweet innocently loveable fuzzballs of joy, why are they so against them being in their lands?

Oh wait... it's all a BigOil plot from evil US oil companies forcing the hapless European Union to not want the sweet lovable terrorists.

Well yes, in a manner of speaking. I'm a big fan of tracing problems back to their roots (comes from farming background).

The root of the reason we have people who hate us abroad, and are therefore "terrorists" is because BigOil has been lobbying to keep us dependant on their industry...and industry whose whole means of being is to continually meddle in affairs of countries where it has no business being..

If BigOil hadn't lobbied so hard, lied, cheated and stole its way above prominence of vastly superior means of energy we could've developed decades ago, except for their aggressive and ongoing efforts to stop it, we would not even be discussing what to do with Gitmo prisoners because the whole reason they exist would've been nullified years ago.

So yeah, when you boil it down that way, yeah BigOil is the one to blame. Thanks for pointing that out.

And BTW, why does Dubya have financial ties to Al Qaida? And Prescott Bush to the nazis? THAT might also explain some of the hostilities..and terrorism towards the "US" (BigOil).

Handy definition: "terrorist"= any person of any nationality who stands in the way of BigOil's monopoly.

Alcatraz is the best place.
Convert it back to a prison.

But when they asked Pelosi, she had a cow.

You obviously havent been to Alcatraz recently have you? Firstly, they closed it back in the 60s because it was to expensive to operate.
For someone who is all twisted about money being wasted, it appears you need to do some homework. It is now basically a park.

If you want a location, there is a struggling community known as Adak, Alaska
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adak,_Alaska
It is the most western city in America and home to a now closed naval base. It was originally considered to house those presently at Gitmo, but decided against because it was on American soil and would have subjected the detainees to the US Constitution.

Either way, many of the facilities necessary to have a supermax prison are already in place. People could certainly use the jobs, and Adak is in the middle of nowhere. Much closer to Russia than it is to Wasilla. Hell it is closer to Tokyo than it is to Seattle. Its the little red dot way out in the Aleutians.

You have systematically removed all my prior assumption that you have rational thought.

To the ignore list with you! Say hi to Dawkins for me.

This current problem is not Bush's problem. Obama created a whole new problem by announcing he will close gitmo with out considering where the guys are going to go.

First you figure out where they will go, then you make your drooling bots happy by saying you will close it.

Great reply Andy, you are much better at explaining your argument than I am :)

Interesting idea, but why move them at all? No one has escaped so its a good enough building, and if obama wanted he can just change the rules to be what ever he wants. perhaps evening foot rubs or something to make the guys feel better.

but why all the drama of announcing that he will close the place and now the new drama of where to put them.

why not fix the existing place if there are problems.

plus it might be too cold for them. they are used to warmer weather. Some people just cant take the cold

Great suggestion Bunz.

Handy definition: "terrorist"= any person of any nationality who stands in the way of BigOil's monopoly.
And hence the reason they were eavesdropping on all of us for any or no reason whatsoever..

Now that sounds great. Let's put a bunch of middle eastern sand/cave dwelling terrorist, in the middle of an ice prison. Wouldn't have many escapees, that's for sure.

Just to point out:

In the Executive Order that President Obama signed to close Gitmo, it was stated that a task force would be set up

" to study and evaluate whether the interrogation practices and techniques in Army Field Manual 2-22.3, when employed by departments or agencies outside the military, provide an appropriate means of acquiring the intelligence necessary to protect the Nation, and, if warranted, to recommend any additional or different guidance for other departments or agencies..."

While it has been stated interrogation techniques must know only be the kind from the Army Field Manuel, this wording allows for vast interpretations, such as "necessary to protect the Nation" etc... This passage can clearly be used to employ techniques not found in the Army Field Manuel, should the task force interpret it that way. I would predict that they make no recommendations on it in order to leave "wiggle room", should the need arise.

If you spin-doctoring idjits would take a breather for a minute, you'd figure out that the prison could be kept warm but the surroundings (should an escape plan be hatched) would be forbidding to leave. Warm inside, ice outside...

And there's more. I get this feeling like we need to be guarding our Alaskan flank. A beefed presence of the military there might not be a bad idea. They can guard the prison for now..

What a bunch of naysayers you are. Bunz comes up with a great plan and you babies whine because it might work. All you can do is critcize while our nation spirals down the poop hole. Turn down the Flush Limbaugh, turn up your sleeves, shut your yaps and get to work.. Or are your conservative values in name only? Hmmmm?

This could be said about liberals for the last 8 years :)

priceless!!!

Gitmo is a facility created off American soil by criminals for the sole purpose of circumventing due process, the foundation of our country. THAT is what is wrong with it. And typically, you are an impediment to our nation's forward movement.

Remove yourself from negatively affecting our country with your endless whining dribble. I am embarassed for you because you don't have the instinct, apparently , to be embarassed for yourself..
