1. Who should be praying day and night for the Chinese leader’s longevity in office? The answer would not only be surprising but shocking to many people. It's his counterpart across the Taiwan Strait.

2018 was the lowest point in the political fortune of Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). Tsai Ing-wen resigned as DPP's chairwoman after suffering a humiliating electoral defeat. At that time, KMT candidate Han Kuo-yu was a top contender to unseat Tsai in the upcoming presidential election in 2020 after a meteoric rise that saw him become mayor of Kaohsiung — Taiwan’s third-largest city.

Then Tsai’s fortunes made a remarkable turnaround beginning in early 2019. She might have been singing regularly the Chinese pop song “God Please Save Me” since her humiliating electoral defeat in 2018. :)

2. ...Xi said early last year (2019) that Taiwan was central to his plans to “rejuvenate” China in a speech that closely tied the Taiwan issue to his pledge to make China a global power by 2050. China “must and will be united, which is an inevitable requirement for the historical rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in the new era,” he told a gathering in Beijing to mark the 40th anniversary of a landmark overture to Taipei after the US and China established relations.

“China has failed to shift public opinion in favour of eventual unification, and many of its coercive measures have been counterproductive, pushing the Taiwanese people away,” said Natasha Kassam, a research fellow at the Lowy Institute in Sydney who studies Taiwan and Chinese politics. “The more that China has attempted to impose a Chinese identity on Taiwan, the more that the people have identified as Taiwanese, rather than Chinese.”

3. The sharp-eyed, half-aboriginal Taiwanese woman was quick to seize the unexpected opportunity, showing that her late mentor was absolutely right to choose her as his successor. She vowed that Taiwan will never be unified with China as long she is in power. Thanks to her mainland counterpart's blunder, she won a landslide victory over opposition challenger Han Kuo-yu to clinch a second term in Taiwan’s presidential election in 2020 as voters stood up to Beijing.

Where on earth can we find someone helping his enemy to stay on power for the rest of her life? No wonder she treats her mainland counterpart with contempt like a paper tiger or the greatest idiot on earth. Like a cow keeps charging at a tiger, she continues to provoke her mainland counterpart since her landslide electoral victory in 2020.

The “tiger” might claim that he made the blunder intentionally so that he would be fed with free milk like a calf every day until her milk runs dry. Then he will have delicious steak for dinner. 🍼 🥩

4. Meanwhile the US has realized that the Taiwanese woman will remain in power as long as her mainland counterpart remains in office. Hence it is not surprising that US feels safe to keep raising its stakes on her regime by stepping up military and economic cooperation with the island. It also forces its so-called allies to join in its geopolitical struggle with China.
