For years, the US has tried to take the role of an impartial moderator between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
This is very difficult, because of US politics. There are a large number of wealthy Jews in the US of whom Israel is the major issue.
On the other side, the Saudis, Kuwaitis, Emiris and other Arabs sympathize with the Palestinians. Islam requires charity to the poor as part of its belief system, and these Arabs support Palestinians. Some support the PLO, but others support Hezbollah, Hamas and other pro-Palestinian organizations.
There are strange alliances involved here. Israel's present government opposes a two state solution. This is why Netanyahu allowed Arab charities to finance Hamas. because Hamas also opposes a two state solution.
The PBS special on Nightline explains this better than I can. I suggest you watch it if you want to understand what is really going on. Both sides spew biased propaganda.
