Budget Calls For Significant Medical Cannabis Tax Hike!!!!

June 11, 2026
.
"District officials are considering a budget proposal that includes provisions significantly raising sales taxes on retail cannabis purchases.
.
Language (Medical Cannabis Tax Rate Amendment Act of 2026) in the proposed 2027 fiscal year budget seeks to
increase the tax rate on the sale of medical cannabis products from six percent to 10.25 percent.
.
While DC’s Mayor is pushing for the tax increase, others on the DC City Council have expressed concerns that raising taxes may “stifle sales at a time when the District needs to see continued growth in the industry” and “drive consumers to illicit markets.”

Arizona:
No Evidence Of Fentanyl Contamination In Unregulated Marijuana!!

June 11, 2026
.
"Other controlled substances are rarely, if ever, intentionally added to marijuana flower sold in the illicit market, according to findings published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences.
.
Investigators affiliated with Arizona State University analyzed 118
botanical cannabis samples provided by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the US Postal Inspection Service. All samples were seized from unregulated markets. Samples were analyzed for traces of 16 other illicit substances, including fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. Researchers described their investigation as “one of the largest studies of illicit drug contaminants in black- and gray-market cannabis in the United States.”
.

"Those enrolled in the state’s medical cannabis access program are no longer subject to workplace sanctions, solely because of a positive drug test for marijuana, according to legislation enacted earlier this year.
.
Legislation
signed into law amends Maine’s employer substance use testing policy requirements so that those patients enrolled in the state’s medical cannabis program have a “legitimate medical explanation” if they test positive for marijuana on an employer-provided drug screen. Under the new law, patients’ authorized use of medical cannabis products is treated no differently than patients’ use of prescription medications."
