Some days I listen to music and let YouTube lead the way into the next song/artist/genre. I have a conundrum. I was pleasantly surprised while also being dismayed. I ran across some amazing old school blues artists from the 60s and 70s. Growing up in Louisiana, I thought I was steeped in the blues so much that it comes out of my pores.

Big Mama Thornton

While I'm celebrating my find, I'm dismayed that these soul shaking black artists weren't mainstream. We celebrated their drug overdosing white counterparts over them, then we ruined the social structure of the black family with Johnson's Big Society.

;)<----this is me getting off of my political soap box.

When you get finished listening to all of the Big Mama Thorton vids, I highly recommend moving on to some other amazing artists.

Howlin' Wolf

Nina Simone
This music is raw, revealing, and poignant in ways that modern music can't hope to duplicate. Enjoy!
