Should our government give supreme court powers over the president?

.....I am speechless.

You should be,,Because liberals will always find away pass bills even it means bribing and buying votes and the President signs bill into law like Heathcare for example. Now if the Supreme court looked at what Obama signed they would reject it right on the spot.

That's a pretty good prediction. Of course, both sides will continue to try to score political points with their respective bases by proposing simplistic fixes that won't work, then blaming the other side when they are rejected.

More and more, the government is beginning to resemble a bird trying to take off, only the two wings simply won't work together. While the right wing is flapping up, the left wing is flapping down, and the bird itself goes nowhere. As long as the government is divided into opposing "wings", each trying to promote a separate agenda, nothing of note is going to get done.

Unfortunately, I believe you're right.
However, it seems that the Left is willing to make compromise, while the Right isn't.

So, the bird is paralyzed.

So you want every piece of legislation to immediately go the Supreme Court for review before being enacted?

If both side would agree to a compromise (1.5 trillion in cuts from the Left, 1.5 trillion in increased revenue for the Right), we would have done more than than the 2.4 trillion.

One way only won't do it. Both together will be a good start.

Exactly! And, more to the point, these sorts of steps get people back to work and off the safety net. That, in itself, has a real double bang for the buck - we get new tax revenues from the new workers, and we no longer have to keep them in the safety net. Its a win-win for all of us.

But the TEA Partiers are no longer interested in a solution. The TEA Partiers have gone into a trance and are mesmerized with the idea that they can shut down government. In their opinion that will be a good thing. They just do not understand what will happen when the Social Security checks don't go out and our soldiers don't get their pay checks and our Border Patrol guards are told to stay home from work. They see this all as some sort of playground game.

Thats right! Cause this country belongs to the people that our fourfathers who wrote that Constitution. Its not just a damn piece of old paper you know. The Constitution is what made America. It belongs to the people not to the politicans. And the Tea Party people are sick n tired of washington politics.

I'd like to see a specific plan written down. Which group of people will be the first to NOT get their check, the second, etc. . .and for how long.

We are close enough to such an eventuality that we, everyone, should know.

Personally, I vote for the first missing pay check to be to Congress people, by order of seniority, then to their staff, then to the defense industry providers (all the big business arm dealers and contractors), then to all the big business receiving subsidies and corporate welfare, then to the airports/ aviation industry that allows big business to function, then to the Pentagon, then to the military, but beginning by the top general, down to (far down the line) to the soldier.

By the way, by the time we stop sending pay checks and subsidies to all those people, there may not be a need for more entitlement cuts!

Little known fact...in a government shut down, members of Congress continue to get paid. They have to pass specific legislation stopping their checks in order for them not to.

Rob,, Theres a famous speech George Bush said. He said you have 2 choices,, Youre ether with us,,Or youre with the terrorist. Now youre ether with us The tea party people?,,Or youre with the politicans? I choose to be with the Tea Party,,Ill be damned ill see the liberals flush America down the toilet!

IF the tea party would ever come up with a real, detailled plan, not a "pie in the sky" or "wishful thinking" I may almost agree with you.

But, the intellectual abilities of too many tea party members doesn't inspire confidence! And, the smart ones are often not REAL tea party members, but "straw men" doing the agitating for other interests.

Someone has to flush the crap left in the toilet by the last Republican President! Then we can start afresh.

I have wondered how many Congress critter's mothers are still alive and drawing Social Security? Of course not getting the check wouldn't mean much to them, since their child is a rich, well paid legislator.

Still, I can see that a few Congressional phones could be ringing on the first day the SS checks don't arrive.

I was looking at some of the numbers today, and it seems there is in fact no solution at all.

The general idea is that the debt limit needs to be increased by $2.4 trillion. Now, at the same time, we are seeing proposals on both sides that amount to only $2 trillion in savings....

So, let me get this straight, the big debate in DC is not that we will balance a budget or have any hope of paying down our debt...the big debate is over whether or not we can "save" $2 trillion, so that we can spend $2.4 trillion?

Two trillion in savings over what period of time? The government has been good at proposing cuts that sound pretty good except that the cuts are over the next decade or longer. Two trillion over ten years is 200 billion a year, far less than the deficit.

It doesn't look like we have the leadership to actually make a dent in the deficit. It's going to take some real sacrifices to do it.

We have only one real choice and that is to grow ourselves out of this mess. We were doing OK just 12 years ago. If we can just reverse the actions of 2001 through 2008 we will fix our selves in a decade,

America is not broke. This crisis is a manufactured crisis brought about by the worst possible motives.

You're right about one thing. This crisis is a "manufactured" crisis. It was manufactured by a bunch of ignorant politicians, from both sides of the aisle, over a period of many decades, with plenty of blame to go around for not regulating the profiteers and other scum on Wall Street, and for spending money like drunken sailors for decades.

What you are wrong about is your belief that America is NOT broke. This country is not only broke..........40% of tax revenues are used to pay the interest on our national debt, and nearly every state in this country is teetering on insolvency!

The budget deficit is not smoke and mirrors. It is real. The national debt is not smoke and mirrors. It is real. The devaluation of the U.S. dollar is not some joke. It is going to happen. The U.S. stock market IS going to crash, and crash hard. The U.S. economy IS much worse than the skewed and worthless U.S. government statistics would have us believe.

Everybody needs to stop pointing fingers and assigning blame. The Democrats AND the Republicans are big spenders and colossal WASTERS of revenue. It is always easy to spend somebody else's money, and none of the powerbrokers in D.C. have shown ANY sign of fiscal responsibility.

If we, as individuals, took care of our own household finances the way the various levels of government (local, state, and federal) take care of their finances, we would all be standing in line at bankruptcy court.

WHY should we allow the politicians to RUIN this country, and RUIN our own lives, by being irresponsible and by lying to all of us in every way possible?

Everybody has their own beliefs. Openmind, ProudLefty, PFOS, Stalin, clarkatticus, and a few others do a good job of presenting the "left" point of view. Myself, Rick, Dr. Who, BigRob, Little Acorn, and others too numerous to mention do a good job of presenting the "right" point of view.

Nobody in here is "stupid". Everybody in here is passionate about their beliefs (sometimes too passionate). In the end, we are all in the same boat, and that boat is the "TITANIC II".

It's time for EVERYBODY in here to wake up. Everybody needs to snap out of their partisan political trance, and take a look at what is going to happen to your livelihoods and your retirement accounts in the near future. Everybody needs to PREPARE for what will surely happen. Period.
