The Grid; DEAD-TECH!!!!

rlg2w[1].webp You make a very good point. The renewable crowd fails to recognize that the power for all of the gadgets and electric cars has to come from somewhere and in the next 10 or 20 years it sure isn't going to be from Solar or Wind, so while we expand and improve those technologies let's realize that we need to work with what we have and make it more efficient and effective.

The technology that we really should be pursuing is nuclear energy from THORIUM REACTORS. Thorium is more plentiful and less harmful to mine than Uranium, and the spent fuel from a Thorium reactor is less radioactive than spent fuel from a Uranium reactor.

....WITHOUT any need for THE GRID!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not actually correct--you're just trading one "grid" for another. The most economical distribution for gaseous hydrocarbons is natural gas, so you'd have to literally lay more gas lines in the ground and then watch the price go sky high because that would be one helluva' capital expense, more of an operating expense and we don't have the gas capacity to make up for the coal you're going to try and get away from.

So....what you're saying is....all o' those folks, who are prone to MAXIMUM-DAMAGE....FROM HURRICANES....would much rather continually rebuild their grids....than have the peace-o'-mind of their BURIED sources of energy???????
.
Come on....gimme a DUH!!!!!!

I believe Britons and Germans are no longer wanting to trade abundant fossil fuel energy for rolling blackouts and skyrocketing electric bills in order to give some global warming medicine salesman an opportunity to stop the rash of hurricanes those nations have not even been experiencing.
