"President Obama warned lawmakers on both sides of the aisle Saturday not to turn the upcoming White House health-care summit into "political theater," but rather "to seek common ground in an effort to solve a problem that's been with us for generations."

The Thursday event, scheduled to be televised live on C-SPANhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/20/AR2010022002277.html?hpid=topnews, could prove a pivotal moment in the year-long effort to overhaul the health-care system. Obama's blueprint, a proposal drawing from the two Democratic bills now stalled in Congress, is expected to be posted on the White House Web site Monday.

According to the White House, the summit is an effort to revive the legislative process by bringing Republicans to the table to identify areas of common ground. But some Republicans have derided the event as a political ploy and have declined to say whether they will attend; what the summit might produce remains uncertain."
Republicans are SERIOUSLY considering The CHICKENHAWK OPTION???!!!!

"Last week, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius drew attention to a California health insurance company, Anthem Blue Cross, which planned rate increases of up to 39 percent. Obama mentioned the increases in his weekly radio address and at a town hall in Nevada.

The new proposal, which a White House official described Sunday night, would give Sebelius new authority to oversee, and potentially block, rate increases that are deemed unfair. It would be based, at least in part, on legislation initially proposed last week by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).

A top official said Sebelius would conduct an annual review of premium increases, and could work with state insurance officials to deny increases that were seen as excessive.

Republicans have criticized the president's health-care proposals as too reliant on government involvement. Obama's latest proposal drew similar fire.

"At first glance, this seems to be an admission from the Obama administration that their massive government takeover of health care will, despite their promises, increase health care premiums for millions of Americans," said Kevin Smith, a spokesman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio).

(Yeah, Boner...send-out your butt-boy....ya' COWARD!!)

But it could prove tricky for Republicans: They must be careful not to be seen in an election year as siding with big insurance companies that are imposing drastic rate hikes on Main Street Americans."

Yeah....the Dead-O-Heads are reeeaaallly worried-about-that!!

(Carefull, Palin fans....there will be some big-words in it.)

If he's already got a proposal and is threatening to pass it without Republicans... Then clearly Obama has no interest in listening to what they have to say and will not consider any proposals they may offer so.... What is the purpose of Republicans showing up?

Let's SEE the Republicans' Proposal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't understand why Obama sincerely wants this. Obama's step for more government control is really not what the American population deserve.
You've already got a National Health Plan.

Why are you worried about ours'???

Far better to spend trillions on pointless wars in Central Asia trying to beat the wily Pathan, and failing.

Problems don't stop at home, I always say. :)

The national health care here, and across Europe, is most definitely not as good as people tend to say it is. It's fairly okay, but nothing more than that. Health care should be more than that. This is why I am worried for the steps of the current US government, they're taking steps in this direction, towards a health care without choices and without competitive service. This will more than anything sadden the American population, who are expecting something great. The only great thing Americans will receive is a great government, speaking of size of course.

This site covers a lot of important points with health care: http://www.healthinsurancequotes.org.uk/

....And, your private-options are nothin' to write-home-about.

"If you are among a growing number of people who want the option of going private, but you do not have access to private medical insurance as a perk from your or your partner’s job, this sort of insurance can be worth considering. It is not cheap however, and there is no guarantee that the treatment you need will be covered. Therefore health insurance should be seen as complimentary to the National Health Service as opposed to competition."

That's exactly what happens when a national health sector controls everything, and the private firms aren't supported in any sort of way. They get to be expensive. This is why the steps Obama is making will only increase the already large class-differences in the US.
