A few points:

1. Was he demoted then? If so that is a bigger story.

2. I am not sure how big a difference is between the two ranks. Are they just different or is one significantly higher than the other one?

And my personal question is this: has the governor admitted now that this was inaccurate or has he double downed and has repeated this inaccuracy again and again and still does?

You need to do your own homework.

He was promoted for the combat mission. Because he did not complete the training for the mission and did not go to Iraq he did not maintain that rank when he retired. Nobody knows and few care what the difference is but the fact he lied repeatedly about this says something about him.

He knows damn well what rank he retired at because it effects his pension.

Walz should not have lied about his rank or his serving in combat. That is obvious. If he just stood on his 24 years of service nobody would be bashing him. I let vets who served in Afghanistan and Iraq judge the timing of his retirement.

Many of our leaders did not serve. Both Trump and Biden were draft dodgers who got bullshit deferments. Mitt Romney got a pass because he was doing ***** excuse me Mormon missionary work in the dangerous jungles of..............France.

The last thing we need in this world is more Mormons. Why would we allow a healthy and able American to skip the draft for missionary work?
