The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index® Declines Sharply

February 23, 2010

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index®, which had increased in January, declined sharply in February. The Index now stands at 46.0 (1985=100), down from 56.5 in January. The Present Situation Index decreased to 19.4 from 25.2. The Expectations Index declined to 63.8 from 77.3 last month.

Lowest reading in 27 years I hear.

The US Consumer apparently isn't fooled by Obama's Lie of a Recovery!

Looks like Wall Street might be starting to agree with the consumer.

This economy is broken and it's Obama's fault.

Or so you would think from this numbskull's post

You are resorting to name calling rather than discussing
anything related to the thread.

Take your rationalist hate to some other thread please.

You post as though Obama inherited a surplus and squandered it when that is exactly what Bush did.

If you don't want to be ridiculed don't be ridiculous

Obama spent like a fool to pursue a socialist agenda
and in the process he made Bush look thrifty.

The US economy is a joke right now, thanks to Obama's
selfishness.

Is it your contention that, when the consumer confidence index is low, it is the fault of the president?

Anybody with common sense saw that Obama was all wrong for business
and improving an economy.
Fortunately, he has the media covering for his bad performance and
failure. There will be no recovery under Obama and it's all about
him and his reputation now.

Stimulus spending in Obama's own words was a gamble that was worth it only
if it prevented unemployment. But now if you are honest you know the
economy has not improved. However he lies to cover his mistake
just asking for people to despise him.

Things progressively got worse under Jimmy Carter, so it has happened
before. Just watch the repeat.

OK, I'll take that as a yes.

Now, 27 years ago, when the consumer confidence index was at an equally low point, was that the fault of the POTUS at that time also?

PLC1 - The consumer confidence index was at a low point under Carter in 1980. It
was Regan who eventually turned it all around.

It was Carter's fault and people don't like to talk
about it now, but Carter did not give people confidence.

He spoke to the US people on TV telling then to wear sweaters and turn the heat down to help reduce our usage of oil. That alone was enough to prove
his lack of positive solutions. Carter had no solutions just like Obama has
none for fixing a broken economy.

But it's really different because I believe Obama is so much
more dangerous at this time. He will spend, spend, spend
until he's thrown out.
