John McCain received a reportedly "tepid" reception when speaking to a disabled vets group in Las Vegas Saturday night. Much of it can be summed up in the words of Duke Hendershot, a double amputee retired Marine who served in Vietnam:

“John just isn’t the same as he used to be. He’s not his own man,” said Hendershot, who lives in San Antonio, Texas. “A lot of that has to do with how he’s wanted this job so bad for so long that he’s tied himself to President Bush…” Hendershot also criticized McCain for taking swipes at Obama in his speech. “He should have been talking about veterans issues, not his opponent.”

"He's not his own man"... yes we've noticed. This is a completely different John McCain than ran in 2000. His supposed universal support among veterans seems to have a very large crack in it as well.

Its a shame that Obama has so little to offer that you have to resort to character assassinations of McCain. But I understand... you cannot defend Obama on his policies, you don't even fully know or understand them, and you cannot defend his associations, which you seem to ignore completely, so things like this post are all you can muster... One marine, who supports Obama, bashes McCain and you think its meaningful.

Did that ONE veterans opinion change ANYONES mind about who they will vote for?

I don't know, but I think it's fair to ask...what happened to John McCain the maverick? Where did the man who would stand up for what was right, regardless of what party or who it offended, go? The John McCain we see now bears little resemblance to the McCain of 2000. This vet has noticed the difference as have many other Americans.

Maybe he just has to be the real John McCain now. Maybe what you're seeing is the real John McCain who has no real character and was a songbird. If somebody can produce those olf tapes his goose will be cooked.

what happened to John McCain the maverick?

How can John be a "maverick" when he's now steering the party? After all, thats what a "maverick" does is go against his party....

John McCain began changing his stripes last year when he decided to run for president, well before he was "steering the party."

To further demonstrate how he has changed...McCain has voted in line with Bush 100% of the time so far this year, 95% of the time in 2007. This after only supporting Bush 77% of the time in 2005 and 67% in 2001.

He has flip flopped on so many issues it's impossible to keep track. One thing the flips all have in common, from the Bush tax cuts to Roe v Wade, an attempt to make McCain more palatable to the Republican base.

Many vets don't like to see this in one of their own. Of particular interest, of the 14 vets that were interviewed for the article cited in the OP only one said he was a certain McCain voter.

All claims, nothing to back any of that up... no links, no sources, nothing, just you making claims. Bravo!

Obama has voted 100% of the time FOR an International Socialist Revolution in America... (No source, no link, just me making a statement)

Thanks Pop! You're sources proved me to be correct as well!

Obama has voted 100% of the time FOR an International Socialist Revolution in America.

Obama has voted pretty close to 100 percent in line with fellow Democrats during his brief Senate career.

So what? I don't hear Obama marketing himself as a maverick. In fact the original thread title consists of the quote.. "John just isn't the same as he used to be. He's not his own man." The link confirms it.

Re: US Marine on McCain "John just isn't the same as he used to be. He's not his own

Obama IS NOT HIS OWN MAN! He is a creation, packaged and sold to the American public and you just eat it up. He's following orders, marching the party line, he's no individual - He is part of the Collective.

Popeye- Their perception of what constitutes socialism is fatally skewed. They have come to think the brand of capitalism which is currently destroyiing america is real capitalism while it's clearly not. I think you know what it is.

Every failure you point to in American Capitalism can be traced back to Socialist influence on our policy OR its statistically insignificant to the bigger picture.
