US Military Misinformation

Its not fair to say "the Army did it" in situations where people in the army are responsible. I continually hear libertarians screaming that the government is corrupt, whe the truth is that some people in the government are corrupt. You are trying to throw the baby out with the bath water here. Even if there were 100 officers tied to the Tillman scandal,(which there aren't) that still would not hold any weight to suggest anything about anyone outside of those men.

LIsten Im tired of spellin this out for you all

We discuss the terms "conservative" and "liberal" as standpoints on the political spectrum, not as specific ideologies. The more liberal standpoints you take the more liberal you (and the farther left you go the more liberal you are) whereas the more conservative your standpoints, the more conservative you are. A conservative might have several liberal standpoints that offset him a little to the left of other conservatives (look at Rudy Guliani). Even independents identify themselves along these lines. You can have vastly different opinions on different issues but in the end those ideas are always liberal or conservative (or that elusive third option, centrist) and when all of your ideas are assessed together it'll come out whether you are more liberal or conservative.

Who said that one sentence in my post was about you?

Because he turned down a multi-million dollar contract to enlist as a grunt in the USAr and this runs counter to the liberal cries that the military exploits the poor and only the lowest members of society make up our armed forces.

The military has exploited a great many people and I think it's a little naive to deny that. The fact that Tillman joined doesn't prove anything to the contrary. I am well aware that the vision most people paint of the military is greatly inaccurate. It is not a collection of poverty stricken high-school dropouts as many people claim. However the military is also far from innocent, thousands of servicemen and a few good friends of mine were explicitly lied to by their recruiters and were made promises that the military then denied including length of tours of service, college financing, oppurtunities, and many other things.

The military did what it does in a lot of cases: some in the chain feared the publicity would be upset if they found out Tillman (a high profile soldier) was killed accidentally. Better to make it seem like it was a heroic death and present that face to the public. But in this day and age lies don't die, they get exposed and instead of a small incident they now have a full blown fiasco on their hands. I've seen it happen many times in my military career and unfortunately the system just doesn't seem to change. The ugly truth is less damaging than the ugly lie that ends up blowing up in your face.

Who believes that they wanted to report that a celebrity and football hero died from friendly fire? Finding out that this happened must have felt like being hit by a ton of bricks. The officers who ordered the cover-up are the most to blame, they should be dismissed.
