WI State Senate Democrats who fled to disrupt voting, may stay out for weeks

Remember the recent whimpering of obozo et al about republican filibusters? Yet now they are implicitly supporting what amounts to the same thing.

that is something that one must decided them self and the people must agree if it was or not....when you do it 120 times in a year...then your just doing it to stall ...when you cant even state why...your just doing it for politics....

the WIS gov decided that he was going to take away the rights of the unions to organize...and then pushed a vote with no time to debate, and offering no amendments, and specifically said Unions that supported him, where exempt...(not in those words of course)

taking away the right to organize for the all the teachers, correctional officers and all other groups...deserves a bit more debate..And the Unions had already suggested they where willing to talk about changing the money around to help the budget...but the gov and republicans found a easier way...just take away there rights to negotiate...its alot easier to just take from the workers what they already promised them.

The Governor does have a point... how can the state bargain on something they have no room to bargain on?

Perhaps they can strip collective bargaining rights for X number of years?

Ultimately however, elections have consequences and unless Republicans have a change of heart this bill is going to pass.

There's no real reason to worry about this as it'll take care of itself one way or another. Since they've got some kind of balanced budget law on the books then I guess the checks will simply stop getting written (they don't usually write hot checks at that level). When teachers and other state workers start not receiving pay & pensions they'll figure it out. There's nothing quite like cold, hard reality to give folks a wake-up call.

again same result...you don't have enough votes to Win a vote...so you use the power to not take a vote to postpone the result of the vote...2 ways of doing it, same result.

the filibusters resulted in an historic shift in seats, this may have the same result so I guess in that regard it could be seen to have the same result.

First the state can always bargin...it can raise taxes cut spending anyplace else, do many things to bargin...thing is, the Unions have said they would be willing to negotiate a price...but not if the bill takes there collective barganing rights away..

It would be like saying, you have the right to have a union...unless your boss says he can't afford you to be in a union, then you have to end it....that would basicly mean, no unions

The issue here is the grotesque spectacle of government employee unions who are bleeding states white to collect the exorbitant pay and benefits given to them by democrat legislatures when times were good. While people who earn their livelihood in the marketplace lose their jobs and their homes, the government drones want to keep those six figure salaries, free health care and pensions, and retirement at age 50.

yes those horrible people who serve the people and get paid for what they do...the horror! And keep crying about the 6 figure Salaries...cuz you know they are mostly in your head...I know quite a few teachers who want to know where they sign up for those...

So essentially, the entire State of Wisconsin should be subject to the whims of the public unions?

You are essentially arguing that it would be a good idea to increase taxes or cut spending out of other areas so that public unions can demand more money. That is outrageous.

It would be like saying, you have the right to have a union...unless your boss says he can't afford you to be in a union, then you have to end it....that would basicly mean, no unions

If a company is broke, they are broke, and there is no more money to demand. It is the same with a state.

You are essentially arguing that if a company like GE was broke, but the union wanted more money, then GE should sell a division to make it happen.

Yeah right - "serve the people". :D Like when you go to the DMV, get in line behind 80 people, who are being "served" by one sullen "affirmative action" dud, with the rest of the windows closed, and about ten people laughing and talking in the back office.
And keep crying about the 6 figure Salaries...cuz you know they are mostly in your head...I know quite a few teachers who want to know where they sign up for those...

The government school drones who have left the US behind almost every major country in international student ranking wasn't who I was talking about, but in nearly bankrupt california with 14% unemployment they make up to in the high 60K:

Add lavish benefits and total compensation easily exceeds $100K. My neighbor works at some piddling state job - he's 44, and talks about putting in the last 6 years, and retiring with 90% pension and free health care for life.

The eternal advice for you is : READ UP.
