That is PRECISELY what the state legislature of Tennessee did in the 1900's: they passed a law banning the teaching of evolution. There are still state laws that require that "Creationism" must be taught as well as Evolution.

No one is saying that 2 billion Christians are doing anything.

If evolution is to make sense there would be 2 and 3 cell life forms running all the way up to humans. There are none, not to mention that Darwin literally babbled that lightning created life in a dead pond. Its all hilariously stupid
 
Most Catholics simply ignore the Archbishop and other church officials and do what makes sense for themselves.
They are not likely to vote for Trump because of anything any church official says.
