The recent press release by state officials about the initiative that the government is about to embark has spurred interesting questions. One may ask whether this initiative can be seen as an example of how developing countries with religious heterogeneity should be dealing with pertinent questions of religious tolerance.

Kazakhstan launches new services to explain religious issues
Kazakhstan’s Religious Affairs Agency launched two new services this week to help answer citizens’ questions about religion. An internet portal, “E-Islam” went online to answer all matters concerned with Islam as part of an effortto explain the true nature of Islam and counter the threat posed by religious extremism and terrorism.
The second innovation was the opening of the “114 Hotline”, a dedicated telephone line to deal not only with questions about religion in general, but also to give psychological help to people experiencing the effects of dubious religious activity. The hotline is the first of its kind in both Kazakhstan and the CIS.
