According to a CNN Poll Obama was a hit last night...

Americans viewed the speech as

Very positive-68%

Somewhat positive-24%

Negative-8%

The speech made Americans feel

More optimistic-85%

Pessimistic-11%

As for the President's plan outlined in the speech

Support-82%

Oppose-17%

Now in all fairness the poll cautions that since Obama is a Democrat, more Democrats were watching the speech..possibly skewing the numbers by 8-10%, but even taking that into account it was a successful night for our fine intelligent new president.

The same intelligent president that doubled the national debt, but is going to cut the deficit in half? No one who doubles the debt then claims they will reduce the deficit, is "intelligent" by any stretch.

Compared to George Bush, who inherited a surplus of 128 billion, and then ran us into debt...yes he's extremely intelligent....and charismatic, which helps in times like these.

I think the word you were searching for was "devious" or "evil" or "self-serving".

Wow, you're liberal mind is just plain making up stuff now.

It's the political-environment that Lil' Dumbya left-behind....everything sounds like a lie, now.

Hell....The Idiot SON fell-for-it!!!

"Ari Fleischer, a spokesman for presumed GOP presidential nominee George W. Bush, said the estimates validate Bush’s claim that there would be plenty of room in the federal budget for his ambitious plan to cut taxes and still have money for other priorities.

The new report “shows that [Bush’s] plans to cut taxes, pay down debt, reform Social Security and increase spending for essential priorities like education, health and defense all fit within government revenue estimates,” Fleischer said."

Yeah.....Lil' Dumbya reeeeeaaaaallllly came-thru, for us!!

When you run a surplus, the national debt is smaller the following year, than it was this year.

When you run a deficit, the national debt is bigger the following year, than this year.

I was wrong: The national debt went down very slightly, in 1956 and 1957. The government ran a surplus in those two years. And also in 1947 and 1948.

Since 1957, we have never run a surplus. The national debt has increased every year since then, without exception.

The claim that GWB inherited a "surplus", is false.

US Budget Surpluses and Deficits

I claimed that Bush inherited a budget surplus...which he did. He then preceded to post a budget deficit every year of his presidency...which he did.

So, CNN says we ran surpluses for several years... while the U.S. Treasury Dept. says we went further into debt, every one of those years.

Have you ever wondered why?

(Hint: Check out how the govt treats the money it takes in for the Social Security Trust fund and other such trust funds it controls. They count SS "contributions" as revenue to the govt. Then it borrows the money from those trust funds... and counts it as revenue again. But then when they figure the National Debt, they can't show a surplus... because they had to borrow to make ends meet. If any private business or corporation tried this kind of fancy accounting, the CFO would go to jail for a very long time. Only the government is allowed to do this kind of "creative bookkeeping" (known elsewhere as "committing fraud".)

The U.S. government has never run a surplus since 1957 - the national debt has gone up every year since then, without exception.

The statement that George W. Bush "inherited a surplus", is false. If and when CNN ever begins doing investigative reporting of matters that favor Democrats, this will become starkly clear.

I'm not holding my breath for that, though.

Ummm, where did Mr. Sham-man go?

He complained that I hadn't posted figures to back up the fact that we hadn't run a surplus. I immediately posted them, in detail, with link and references.

And suddenly Mr. Sham-man has become very quiet. I thought he wanted to discuss the topic here?

Anybody seen him around?
