Obama's trip to India

Also he loudly advocated a permanent seat for india on the security council - just what we need - a country which votes against the US 83% of the time.

He gave a speech to their congress, pointing out he came to them first on his asia junket, and is staying there the longest. What was THAT for? Did he expect them to respond "O we are not worthy, Annointed One!" The arrogance of this incompentent mediocre ghetto politician continues to amaze.

Pointing that out is not bad foreign policy. It sends a clear message to the Indian government where the US thinks they are headed, and also sends a message to China in the process.

He does not say things like that for the audience in the room, he says things like that for the audiences around the world in other capitals.

Again, not really a bad thing. It placates the Indian government into giving us something (hopefully) and all the while there is a 0% chance India will actually get a permanent seat.... not to mention, even if they did, that does not mean they get veto power.

No doubt when the excellent comic Ms. Plain gets elected, for none should underestimate the intelligence of the US public, we can look forward to a documentary similar to that crested by her father, the magnificent Michael Palin of Monty Python Fame....

Comrade Palin

Giving us WHAT?

Giving us WHAT?

India is one of the world's fastest growing economies.. they are going to be buying more advanced technology from somewhere, and President Obama is attempting to make sure that it is from the US.

Additionally, (If I remember right) while he was there, or shortly after, they announced another $10 billion in US exports to India.

India is also becoming a large player is fighting terrorism, being a bulwark against China, and promoting general global economic development, which helps us all.

but that 10 billion is a drop in the bucket to the 100 trillion bazillion dollars the trip cost...per hour...while he took over 100,000,000 staffers!

:)

Whattaya mean buying advanced technology from us? If you mean PRODUCTS, like electronics, they'll be buying them from where their made - asia. The only thing the rest of the world wants from us is pretty much just food.

Sorry, but you are 100% wrong here.

Principal U.S. exports to India are diagnostic or lab reagents, aircraft and parts, advanced machinery, cotton, fertilizers, ferrous waste/scrap metal, and computer hardware. Demand for these products in India is increasing, and we need to position ourselves to meet that demand... which Obama is trying to do.

**Note the lack of "food".

Correct, and now we can add Harley Davidson motorcycle parts to the list.

Principal U.S. exports to India are diagnostic or lab reagents,

low-tech - practically commodities

aircraft and parts,

One of the few areas we still excell in, but that will probably disappear since Boeing is becoming an "affirmative action" wasteland.

advanced machinery,

Like what?

cotton, fertilizers, ferrous waste/scrap metal,

low-tech, and commodities

and computer hardware.

like what?

What we import from india: software. And they get cotton and scrap metal from us. Clear which way the wind's blowing to anyone who will but look.

So?

One of the few areas we still excell in, but that will probably disappear since Boeing is becoming an "affirmative action" wasteland.

...ok... I have my doubts Boeing is about to "disappear" due to affirmative action.

Like what?

It varies, oilfield equipment, pulp and paper machinery, Pharmaceutical preparations, Synthetic rubber-primary, Agricultural machinery, Generators, Industrial engines, the list goes on and on.

low-tech, and commodities

And?

like what?

Computers, computer accessories, business machines, telecom equipment, semiconductors etc..

The State Dept lists the major imports from India as this:

Major U.S. imports from India include textiles and ready-made garments, Internet-enabled services, agricultural and related products, gems and jewelry, leather products, and chemicals.

We import over 50% more from them than they import from us.

http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c5330.html#2010

We don't need them - they need us.

nations don't normaly have 50 50 trade...and 50% would be more then alot of nations. And they don't have to be...and when there not...you can do more to make them more equal...you don't cry about it and just say well its not perfect so don't try.

So you are mad that they import less from us than we do from them... and you are then mad again at President Obama for going to India to try to increase our exports to them....

You can't have it both ways...

Additionally, who cares if there is a trade imbalance? Trade imbalances are irrelevant in my opinion from an economic standpoint.
