What great thinkers did former president Clinton appoint? Of course Presidents appoint people that are loyal to them. They have enough problems fighting congress. They don't need to waste time fighting their own appointees also. Besides that, no matter who President Bush appointed Democrats would scream favoritism.

First of all, Gonzalez was not entirely unqualified for the job -- he'd been a prolific private-practice attorney for more than a decade before he was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court.

Now those are not the kind of rock-solid credentials that make an awesome AG (we all know he was picked because he's Bush's friend and Hispanic), but to say he completely lacked credentials is going too far.

Richardson, the fact that Clinton stuffed his cabinet full of treasonous degenerates sometimes picked solely on the basis of identity politics is no excuse for Bush to do the same.

exactly, im pretty sick and tired of the "but Clinton..." excuses.

So you acknowledge, then, that Clinton's Cabinet was full of treasonous degenerates sometimes picked solely on the basis of identity politics?

1. Gonzales had only one real problem. He is a conservative Mexican. The Democrats fear having Hispanics that are conservative and Republican holding any office. The Democrats only want Hispanics that are subservient to the Democratic Party. Having conservative Republican Hispanic office holders might make other Hispanics realize that the Republican Party is better for them than the Democratic Party.

2. If I remember right the ABA gave Gonzales their highest rating.

3. Gonzales had a reputation as being a brilliant jurist.

Neither of those things could be said for Clinton's Attorney General who spent all of her time protecting him and virtually none of her time doing her job.

treasonous degenerates? be more specific. Who are we referring to? Les Aspin/Somalia? ok i guess, but not even remotely close to Rumsfeld. Cisneros plead guilty to Libby like charges and O'leary had the travel scandal. I'll definitely agree with you on Summers (Sec of Treasury). If Mike Espy is considered Treasonous...well that opens the door for half of the republican senators to be called the same. I wasn't a fan of any of Clintons Sec of Commerce, mostly due to NAFTA, but I wouldnt call them treasonous. Richardson held questionable stocks/dealing with big Energy companies but it doesnt come close to comparing to Cheney.

David Gergen is the scum of the earth. Deputy WH Counsel Lindsey is definitely a shady character in the Rove mold. Oh wait, I almost forgot Berger. Covering Clinton's tracks on terrorism. The Bush Administration learned from that, better to have no documents, than to have classified documents.

Gonzales ONE real problem was that he served the President and not the American people and he let the Justice Department take the fall while he protected his guy.

"But Clinton..."
