Take a look at the following report by the Comptroller General of the United States. Their solution of raising taxes is of course preposterous - since these guys never imagine in their wildest dreams that government spending must be cut. But the warnings they raise are valid, and I've been saying this along. It's just bizarre to see an official government report admitting that there's a problem. Note the charts from 2030 and 2040:
