China remains on target to win in the gold medal count rendering the US to #2.

The IOC said Friday there is still no proof anyone cheated, though it asked the International Gymnastics Federation to investigate “what have been a number of questions and apparent discrepancies,” spokeswoman Giselle Davies said. However, all the information the Chinese gymnastics federation presented supports its insistence that its athletes were old enough to compete.

“We believe the matter will be put to rest and there’s no question ... on the eligibility,” Davies said. “The information we have received seems satisfactory in terms of the correct documentation — including birth certificates.”

There's no absolute slam dunk proof china is cheating, because nobody is interested in ferreting it out, with VERY justified evidence that they ARE cheating. The reason for this is that China is China: a growing economic and military power, holder of US bonds, seller of cheap products, buyer of oil, supplier of medium range missile parts. They've co-opted the entire world, so nobody wants to get them upset. This is what I call the "china syndrome" - it explains such varied things as why the ecofascists who blather about the US not supporting anti-global warming give China a free pass to build a new coal-burning power plant every week, and why people can express self-righteous indignation over zimbabwe, while fawning and butt-kissing for the biggest dictatorship on earth.

As for China's gold medals, about half of them are because China got the IOC to add as "sports" such things as trampoline, ping pong, badminton, and air gun shooting, and tweak them all so you even get multiple golds in each "sport". Meantime, the US wins golds in traditional REAL sports such as track and swimming, where the chinese are nowhere to be found. You think china has a lot of golds now? Wait till they get the IOC to add tiddlywinks.

China does get a pass on many things, polution, human rights violations, forced abortions.... But to the Left in America - Since we are not yet the perfect Socialist Utopian civilization they believe they can "Change" us into, if only the evil Conservatives would die or be put in jail - America doesn't have the "Moral Standing" to say anything negative against another country... Only America is worth badmouthing, its safe to say horrible things about your own country, thats quite popular, especially since "the rest of the world" will join in on the bashing.
