Gun control laws in Connecticut somewhat worked to prevent Adam Lanza from purchasing a rifle in a planning stage of the school shooting but he managed to steal a military-style assault rifle from his mom, which was used to kill most of the victims and Nancy Lanza had to quit her job as a teacher to take care of the troubled son with a mild form of autism at home and she should have sought outside help before the situation got out of hand and she could afford it with $12,000 a month in alimony.

If he didn't have easy access to guns most or all of those people would be alive
Guns are individuals' weapons of mass destruction and you lot used the posession of those as a pretext to wage war on a nation that was not attacking you

I would not favor passing out weapons with their badges each year but if they've taken the care to qualify foro concealed carry and wish to, absolutely.

Every year in the United States nearly a half million children are tragically killed. The top two causes of these deaths are:
1) Car Accidents
2) Drowning
Yes, the pro-car lobby will wail and gnash their teeth, and the NCA will have a hissy fit. But how long can a civilized, democratic society allow our children (and adults) to be maimed and killed by these cars and fluids?
Every year, 260,000 children are killed and 1,000,000 injured in car accidents. A significant number of these deaths and injuries are perpetrated by semi-automatic assault cars.
Every year, 175,000 children are killed and as many as 3,000,000 injured by water in high capacity containers.
When will we say enough is enough? Compared to the number of children killed by firearms every year in America - approximately 1000 - the car and water deaths are astronomical! Approximately 260 children are killed by cars to every 1 child killed by a firearm!

There are other solutions. In Australia and Britain many police are not armed. Having guns on the scene just is likely to kill more people.
The school teacher eve if armed may not get to shoot first and in any case would not be necessary a better marksman. The shooter in this case was a top marksman only wounding one of his victims, the rest he killed. This might be due to years of training with his mother at the rifle range.

yeah, prety interesting choice of activity for a kid with known mental issues for a mother to choose but he is the rarest exception to the rule among criminal marksmen. an example:
the chances this loser hits his target are very low. he'll wind up shooting left and high. tends to explain the people in gangland catching stray bullets.
there is no guarantee that even an experienced shot will get the opportunity or hit the mark but when criminals don't know who is armed and who is not even these fools have to think twice as opposed to knowing full well that everyone they will face is unarmed.
I recall an article some years ago about "bobbies" ruing the no weapons thing when the foreign gangs came to stake out drug turf in jolly ole England. thats why only some bobbies are unarmed now as opposed to all of them.
