The government is not made of money and does not create money out of thin air. If the government pays money to lower drug costs for individuals, then the government is spending money it took from taxpayers.

I don't believe the government does not have a bargaining tool to use to force pharmaceutical companies to lower their prices. I believe the US government regularly subsidizes the companies, providing them with just such a bargaining tool.

Exactly that is the problem.

In Europe there are laws in place that the companies have to negotiate a price with a government agency. That way, the taxpayer doesnt have to pay a dime for the drugs and the drugs are cheap.
