Theists and atheists

Ok, try this

Galileo was placed under arrest by the catholic church for stating that the earth goes round the sun contradicting the bible's statement that the sun goes round the earth

Science won and Christians had to amend their views to accommodate this inasailable truth

Just about all Christians believed in creation until evolution became inassailable and then christians changed their view to one of intelligent design

Over time more and more Christians are ditching the literal interpretation of the bible because science shows it increasingly to be inaccurate

Now, does that work for you or do you need web links to prove to you what is blatantly obvious to sane people?

Galileo's arrest is largely misunderstood and spun to reflect an alternate reality.

Everyone adjusted their view about the movements of the planets. Christians were hardly alone and since they largely held their original view based on the wrong science of the time they were right to change.

Creationism was a practical theory until a better one came along. That better theory though is not evolution as taught in dogmatic universities but is a view that understands that God created the world and used various methods including changes in creatures' DNA. It is a good thing that Christians are open minded enough to be able to change their views just as their peers in science do.

Their never really was a literal interpretation to be ditched. Christians always knew that there was much poetry and prose and metaphor and allegory...in the bible.

Hi to everyone! I have not been on here recently. Life has been very busy and it can be difficult to log on knowing that once I do if I don't get to respond to every thread in which I have subscribed then when I log off I will lose my place. My mother has recently been diagnosed with an incurable cancer and my family has been busy helping Mom and Dad. Recently my son was sick so that meant that we could not go to my mom's and that means that I now have a bit more time to be here.

I see there is a new format. Still figuring out how it works.

Hope you all have been doing well!!

Thank you all who have wished us well. As an aside the bureacracy as usual is overreacting in typical draconian fashion. The health county department was arguing with my doctor trying to convince them that every single kid in my sons class should be on a course of antibiotics for a pertussis outbreak. The doc told them that 2 kids is not an outbreak and the rest, my son included, just have a cough - he even tested negative.

I will most likely be here sporadically only but miss you all.

Take care of business Doc, we'll see you when you can. Extra prayers that these beuorocrats gain some wisdom from this aweful mess.

My memory is going south and I cannot remember why I registered at this site or why I have not posted my own agenda. Normally I have to wade through a ton of religious crap about the sky daddy keeping a finger on the lives of all Americans.

I am beyond being a Republican or a Democrat as both live in fear of hell and damnation. I am closer to Ron Paul when he speaks as an individual not a Republican.

In my world, all American citizens are absolutely equal. Individual freedoms for everyone not just for white Christian straight men. I cannot be an Atheist because the Atheist sites are Socialists. I am a free enterprise Capitalist and I have a great respect for Ayn Rand. I believe in UFOs and believe that our government must introduce the possibility of this and work on a plan. I'm old as hell and do not fear dying if I can die on my own terms.

OK welcome back then. You would not be the only atheist (not anti-theist) on board here as well as libertarian minded folks so maybe this place isn't a bad match for you.

RE UFOs, is that plan more "Close Encounters" or "Mars Attacks" ?

My son will be fine - thank you.

Mom will sadly for us be meeting her maker. In her 70's she has no regrets nor unfinished business.
I pray she has patience at this side and peace and consent on the other.
Although it's hard and saddening, but sometimes seeing our close relatives die is the only way to believe and remember we're on the same path...
and to be looking forward or at least preparing for the journey...

Hi, I have missed your previous posts. But Hi anyway.

"Man is certainly stark mad. He cannot make a worm an yet he will be making Gods by the dozens."
- Michel Eyquem de Montaigne (1553-1592)
. . . .

I doubt that there are many true atheists. The first that comes to mind would be David Hume, who was one of the great moralists of his time. And before him, certainly, Thomas Hobbes; but not openly, for people were burned in his day for not subscribing to the right religious beliefs. For my own part, I would agree with Montaigne: there are too many gods - and such troublesome beings for all their meddling in the affairs of men - we would be well rid of them. Let them have their heaven for all its cold comfort; for their sake, man has made a hell on earth.
