1. WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (Reuters) - The White House said on Monday it expected China in coming days to escalate its response to a potential visit by U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan and said the United States would not be intimidated.

China's actions could include firing missiles near Taiwan, large-scale air or naval activities, or further "spurious legal claims" such as Beijing's assertion that the Taiwan Strait is not an international waterway, White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters.

"We will not take the bait or engage in saber rattling. At the same time, we will not be intimidated," he said.

Pelosi has the right to visit Taiwan, the White House said, adding that China appeared prepared to respond, possibly with military provocations.

Pelosi was set to visit Taiwan on Tuesday, three people briefed on the matter said, as China warned that its military would never "sit idly by" if she visited the self-ruled island claimed by Beijing....

"The speaker has the right to visit Taiwan, and a speaker of the House has visited Taiwan before, without incident, as have many members of Congress, including this year," Kirby said.

"There is no reason for Beijing to turn a potential visit consistent with long-standing U.S. policy into some sort of crisis or conflict, or use it as a pretext to increase aggressive military activity in or around the Taiwan Strait," he said....

2. During the recent phone call to his Chinese counterpart, the "gas-emitting" White House incumbent appeared helpless in averting House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s potential visit to Taiwan even though he said that the military does not support it. However, by today (August 2), the White House suddenly changes its tune, stressing that the US will not be intimidated by China as Pelosi has the right to visit Taiwan.

The Chinese leader would have nothing to lose if he had the foresight to make the following parting shot to his "gas-emitting" US counterpart, "I am looking forward with great anticipation to the US severance of diplomatic relations with the Chinese mainland and the re-establishment of ties with my Chinese island province. I hope your colleague will bring us the good news after her visit to my Chinese renegade island. Good luck to your country and my renegade province!"

Instead, he fell into his US counterpart’s trap by giving his long-expected warning, "Those who play with fire will perish by it." During a virtual summit with his US counterpart in November last year, the Chinese leader also warned that encouraging Taiwanese independence would be "playing with fire". As Chinese officials, particularly the Chinese leader, have the habit of repeating the same old things over and over again like monks' chanting, US officials could predict everything they are going to say. Hence it won't come as a surprise if the US leader set up a trap for his Chinese counterpart in his recent phone call. Now the US House Speaker openly calls the Chinese leader's bluff.

There are suspicious circumstance surround the US House Speaker’s sudden visit to Taiwan. It seems that the US is attempting a regime change in China by arranging the House Speaker's visit to Taiwan at this time of the year. The timing is close to the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party when the Chinese leader will be confirmed officially as "president for life". The Chinese leader has to eat his words and his chances of holding on to power will diminish if the US House Speaker succeeds to call his bluff. The Chinese leader definitely cannot make the US House Speaker perish by fire. Neither can he roast the half-aboriginal Taiwanese woman alive as she would be hiding like a rat somewhere in Taiwan. Even if the Chinese leader succeeds to hold on to his power, he will become a laughing stock in the eyes of his people and the rest of humanity for having fallen into a trap set up by his US counterpart. However, not all is lost to the Chinese leader. He has at least three "peaceful" ways to salvage the situation.

3(a) In the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", the famous Chinese warrior Guan Yu’s arm was wounded by poisonous arrows in a battle. In order to get rid of the poison that had penetrated his arm bone, he let the famous doctor Hua Tuo cut open it to scrape off all the poison without applying anesthesia while he played a game of Chinese chess and chatted with friends.

It must be pointed out that the US House Speaker's visit will not amount to independence for Taiwan. Since the US switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing on 1 January 1979, the Taiwanese authorities must have been pressing the US government to cut off ties with Beijing to re-establish relations with Taipei. However, the US needs China more than China needs the US, otherwise the Taiwanese wish would have been granted long ago. Hence, suspending or severing diplomatic ties with the US is an effective means for the Chinese leader to salvage the situation. He should take a cue from the ancient Chinese general Guan Yu's example by resorting to such a "painful" measure.

3(b) Since China claims to have full sovereignty over Taiwan, there is no reason why it cannot fly military aircraft over the island's airspace into the Pacific anytime it likes after the US House Speaker's visit. If Taiwanese aircraft try to intercept the mainland's planes, Chinese pilots should not hesitate to shoot them down.

3(c) The third way to punish the US authorities for setting up a trap for the Chinese leader over the House Speaker's Taiwan visit is to halt all exports of Chinese rare earths to America at once.

Absolutely true.

Pelosi is a idiot
I cant help acknowledging what a beautifully well researched reply. It cuts directly to the problem and drives a stake through the heart of freedom. The world is ever so thankful to intellectual giants like you walking amongst us.
But to instantaneously recognise her mental capacity from where you live is breathtaking. You qualifications should recognised by the government and rewarded.
