1. Psaki...largely avoided a question on whether war crimes are being committed, and plenty of others on the conflict between Israel and Hamas....we just learned, via the Washington Post on Monday, that "the Biden administration has approved the sale of $735 million in precision-guided weapons to Israel." This would seem to be an action that sends a message about how the United States views the conflict—namely, that Israel is wielding its formidable military capabilities in a way the U.S. deems acceptable....

...If the White House believes Israel's use of force over the last week has been perfectly legitimate, and therefore compatible with the U.S. sending over more weapons for the same armed forces to use, they should say so and explain why.

It cannot be a given that the U.S. supplies the Israeli government with $4 billion in military aid every year regardless of how that government chooses to wield that power. In fact, our distribution of highly advanced weapons to governments all over the place, regardless of human-rights records—supercharged under the last administration—is in grave need of review. That's even if it means yelling over the objections of the companies who manufacture them—and have a Super Poligrip on Congress—and our own reluctance to grapple with our responsibility, as an American society, for supplying the tools of death and destruction now at work across the world.

2. RAMALLAH, WEST BANK: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says Israel is carrying out “organized state terrorism and war crimes” in Gaza that are punishable under international law.

In a televised address Wednesday, he said the Palestinians “will not hesitate to pursue those who commit such crimes in front of international courts.”....

Earlier this year, the International Criminal Court launched an investigation into possible war crimes committed by Israel and Palestinian militants during the last Gaza war, in 2014. It has expressed concern about the latest round of fighting.

Abbas accused Israel of “brutal attacks on civilians and deliberate bombardment of homes.”...

3. If the International Criminal Court (ICC) could punish Israel for war crimes in the Palestinian territories, it should also punish the US as an accomplice for supplying "the tools of death and destruction" to the Jewish state for genocide and state terrorism against the Palestinians.
