I suspect that much of what passes as true science has done a lot of damage because it is not true.

The scientific method is the best way we have of determining what is and is not real.

Was life created? We don't know, but we do know that it was created via evolution. Where did those first few single celled organisms come from all those years ago? I don't know, and neither does anyone else. Where did all of the thousands of life forms that have existed on Earth come from? Well, they evolved from those first few organisms. The great question to be answered is whether that evolution just happened on its own. I don't pretend to know the answer to that one either, do you?

There are, in the Bible, only secondhand myths that no one can prove, or ever will prove. Did corpses pop out of the ground and wander about Jerusalem in response to Jesus' death? What evidence is there for the Resurrection? Only secondhand gossip. No one can identify who the Gospels' authors were.

The evidence for the Big Bang is that the red shift proves that the Universe is in a state of expansion, an that the rate of expansion is measurable and accelerating. The direction of cosmic matter is known and can be traced backwards to a moment in which all matter and energy was concentrated in a very small very dense glob.
