My thought for the day:

Werbung:
As noted, you're not interested in the criminal.
Not once they're arrested, tried, and in jail, no.

Before that, it seems to me a good idea to keep guns out of their hands if at all possible.

and after that, it seems to be a good idea to be able to trace just who used the gun in the crime and where it came from.

but, that's just me.

So instead of identifying people predisposed to violence against themselves or others, the one in a million, you just want to inconvenience the million to no viable end.
I prefer acting upon the disease and not the symptom.

How about identifying people predisposed to violence, then making it as difficult as possible for them to get a weapon?

Or, we could just wait until after the fact, then wring our hands and send them off to jail.

That's already the law but the mental health "professionals" refuse to do their job.

Can we really ask professionals to identify right-wing nutters who are scared shitless of almost anything, particularly the descendants of those they enslaved?

No because that serves no purpose. But we should demand that they identify those who are a danger to themselves or others. Even if it means they risk their revenue stream.

identify those who are a danger to themselves or others.
Is that constitutional? I mean to say on what grounds do you determind such a condition and who determinds what "danger" means and if they are in fact a danger. Also, can the US afford such an endevour?
Would you agree with euthenasia on those born with a predisposition to "danager"?

Yes. It is constitutionaland the law of the land.
Mental health professionals have been doing this for ages. So can it be afforded ? Already is.
Euthanasia? No. If they can't be controlled then they get institutionalized. This too has been going on for ages

yeah....they have so I guess all gun shops should have on hand a psychiatrist, psychologist, criminologist and a battery of scientists and medical professionals to assess people before they purchase a gun?
Punter: I'd like to buy a gun, please.
Salesman: Certainly Sir, take a seat and I'll have the panel roused for your evaluation but first please step into the booth for your PET scan and then we'll be taking blood and have your DNA sampled and tested and then the geneticist will be doing some follow ups with you.
Punter: huh!!?? I only want to buy a friggin gun not purchase a life insurance policy!!
Salesman: Yes Sir but we have to assess your psychological viability to own one first. Don't worry it only takes a few weeks and a small charge of about $50,000 and if you're not a stitch short of a sweater and everythings' all tickety-boo in the noggin department then bob's your uncle and fanny's your aunty, gun's yours, jobs a good-un! So lets shave your head then.....
Punter: piss off I just want to buy a bloody gun!!!
Salesman: Ah but you may have a predisposition to violence and other anti-social tendencies and should these tests allude to the fact that you may be a bit on the short fuse side....well....it becomes a tad problematic to sell you a firearm....how about a bottle of acid?
Punter: Look bub I've been around guns all my life...my pappy was in Vietnam, grandpappy was in WWII great grandpappy was in WWI...
Psychologist: Ah...zat iz verri intersting pleez lie on ze couch! Zo, you av a hiztoy ov wiolenz in ze family huh....hmmmm...do you mazturbate....

For the US, why not give up the gunshops and just have the psychiatrists, for whom there is immensely greater need, obviously!

yeah but think of the employement prospects! Bubba pops into his local for an AR-15 with buttstock or whatever the bloody things are called and then you have legions of health professionals decending on him to test if he's the lucky sibling with use of the family braincell!
Meh, its all window dressing anyway. They witter on about testing and background checks and all the other paraphenalia that they think is going to stop wankers with weapons but it ain't, it'll keep happening and they'll keep asking was he mad, muslim or mexican?
I guess as others have said; its up to the kids to try and add some sense to the situation. Good luck to them I say! I have great faith in the younger generation but until they get a pretty serious rise in their pocket money the NRA will keep filling up the pockets of the those in power and...well...money talks!
