Impeached means the process is forwarded from the house of reps onto the senate for ratification. When it is delivered by hand it is then official.
It all becomes academic if the senate fail to approve it, which is what will happen.

The person will remain impeached forever but will be found not guilty and no process to go forward.

How about Lt. Col. Vindman's high crime of attempting to subvert Trump's foreign policy in Ukraine, his illegal leak of a secret phone call he had no business getting involved with, and his lies to Congress pretending he did not know who the 'whistleblower' was and then admitting later that he was the whistleblower?
