Assuming Romney can actually accomplish his "plan" of capping spending at 20% of GDP, that will still guarantee, 100%, that we run an annual deficits and continue to add to our national debt. Cut spending to 18% and there's a 50% chance of having a balanced budget, cut spending to 16% and there's a near 100% chance of having a balanced budget OR an actual surplus.
While I prefer Romney's 20% of GDP to Obama's current 24% of GDP, the fact remains that neither one is putting forward a credible plan to balance the budget, much less begin paying off our debt.
No matter who wins the increase in government powers will most likely stay and increase more. Presidents think that the powers are needed, justified, and that their admin will not abuse them. Whether that is true or not some future admin may not be so trustworthy. This creeping increase in power needs to be stopped by citizens of both parties.
