There are too many things to unpack about this but I'm name some of them.

First of all most of these people owe their job and careers to this lie. They will always claim we are in crisis mode and slant their research accordingly. They are not going to release data that puts them out of a job.

And it makes them feel important. The more moderate position that it may or may not be caused by humans or the perspective that we cannot do much about it does not appeal to them. They want to pretend they are saving the planet.
