What is obvious is that the US and the EU are powerful allies against dictatorships such as Russia and China. Putin wants to wants to restore the USSR under the Russian Federation, which he rules. NATO, the EU, and the USA will all be more powerful with the territory and people of Ukraine on their side. If Putin wins, then NATO, the EU, and the USA will be weaker, and Putin will invade former Soviet Republics, such as Georgia, Moldova, and the Baltics.

It will be costly to finance a Ukrainian victory, but far more costly for a weakened NATO alliance to defend Europe against Russia.

It seems simple. Trump shut down travel from China early in the pandemic in an effort to contain the covid virus and Pelosi took to the streets of San Francisco a month later to try to calm everyone's fears about the virus and to encourage shoppers to keep shopping.
