I remember, I was just having a bit of fun. As far as my politics, I'm what most people would call a Libertarian. I used to lean more toward the Republican side, but that was only until they started acting like Democrat Lite and abandoned the "Contract with America", and threw away their Goldwater/Reagan principles. I'm a lot closer to the old original Jefferson Republican belief than anything else, and as such I believe that people are responsible for taking care of themselves. If you want to, you can choose to help your fellow man, but it's sure as God made little green apples not the governments responsibility to do it.

My wife had to have emergency surgery several years ago, we had no insurance, so they sent me the bills, and I paid them. It took me a couple of years, but I paid every penny I owed.

It's too-late, now....but (if this was a true story), you'd have posted exactly what this emergency surgery was.....and, what the total-bill was....you know, to compare your ability to cover this bill, as-opposed-to someone who doesn't have your resources.

I don't buy it (your story).

No, the person receiving the care should pay their own bills. If they can't, their Church can, and most times will, help out. There are also skads of other charitable organizations out there that help people who are "down on their luck".

And despite your vitriolic response about where I've obtained my information...the reason that the "Hill-Burton Act" was implemented was just for these type of refusal/denied services...so that all humans would have a hospital in the immediate area that was receiving grants/funding would be on the "HAVE TO SUPPLY INDIGENT CARE" to any and all people who needed the emergency room/surgical service!!!
