Breakfast with a Lib

Its more fun to invite the poor friend to things you know they can't go do, so you can feel like you tried ...See problem is Conservatives live in a world where they think everyone is out only for them self and greedy ...they get thrown off when with liberals who are actually not, and don't actually mind helping a friend who is less well off so they can feel included and not feel bad if they can't afford all the same things.

Can that really be true? Is that what people who call themselves conservative think?

when I dine with some of my freinds who don't have much money I very often pay for it all, or most...when we go out with others and I know they want to join, I tell them ahead I will cover it so they don't feel like they can't join out of income restrictions....

Ah that is sweet of you to offer to pay for friends who dont have much.
I LIKE THAT!!!

My fun joke wouldn't work on you. It only works when they dont want to pay and I force them, like taxes are forced.

And what satisfaction do you get from a post like this when you are making fun of people who are trying to share? If I have more money I pay more or all of the bill, is this shameful in some way? Am I a bad person for sharing what I have with those who have less? I'm doing it voluntarily, I'm not requiring anyone else to do it, why have you written a post like this?

I get the satisfaction of showing someone who believes that others should have their taxes raised so another group can have the money.

Again, this doesnt work with libs who want to pay a bigger part of the bill. You and pocket are rare at least around these parts. All the libs I know would not be offering to pay for other peoples food and resent when I bring up the bill paying method.

Now in reality I would never let them pay my way and I always leave a better tip even if I have less. But I want them to have something to think about.

Its so easy to say rich people should pay more taxes for the poor, but if you show them in something as simple as lunch it at least makes them see a bit what they are advocating for other people.

I think he's trying to make an analogy to the income tax systems. If people at restaurants shared the bill in the same way as people are taxed, then someone with a million $ income gets charged 100 times more than someone with a ten thousand $ income. If you look at a typical progressive tax system it's even more unbalanced. Then poor people eat for free, middle class people pay for some fraction of their meal, and the wealthy have to pay for the meals of hundreds of people.

Yeah that is the point I try to make but on a smaller scale, so the middle class is the highest wage earners in any group I have done this with and represents the most wealthy of the group so they have to take on the role of fat cat :)

I also do it every year with halloween candy with my kid. I point out how hard it was to go to so many doors and how she worked really hard at it and let her look at all she got for her work, then I want ten percent for state taxes and another 12 percent for federal and then some SS stuff and a few hidden fees and show her the pile other people get who did not go door to door for what ever reason... tired, sick or what ever. She always objects to just having a percent taken for the system but never objects to giving a pretty generous portion to someone who was sick and couldnt trick or treat. I can tell she will be more into charity than taxes when she grows up.

She of course gets all her candy and what ever is left over in our bowl we bought for other kids, but I want her to think about how the system works.

So true, but what are the consequences of a confiscatory tax system? The consequences are economic disaster. No one works hard, no one starts a business, the rich move out of country, no investment, etc. This is common in socialist/communist nations and will destroy the goose (USA) that lays golden eggs for all it's people.

Liberals and progressives have no problem with confiscating property from the rich and could care less about the long term consequences.

Also, the definition of rich to a progressive is anyone who has a job.

Agreed. My question is, where do you draw the line about what is reasonable and what is not reasonable? What if we switched to a true flat tax where everyone owes the same amount? With a ~2.5 trillion $ federal budget and 130 million taxpayers, that's about $20000 per person. How many people could afford to pay $20000 in federal taxes every year? I certainly couldn't, I *need* the rich people to pay most of my share.

Should we do a "flat tax rate" where everyone pays a fixed percentage of their income? Then people with a $1 million salary pay 100 times more for their meal than people with a $10000 salary. Is that fair? If so, then why is a progressive tax unfair? Honestly, I really don't know what should be reasonable.

of course her tax system I guess says the rich as much and all they want...while the poor starve on the sides...after all can't tax them to help the poor right? Maybe the rich can even dine on the body of a starved person :)

bush didn't pass a 1trillion spending bill to create jobs and stimulate the economy.

Well, I, "ALWAYS", The GREAT!! Would never dine with a lib. I would puke on my first bite. I have never known a truly compassionate liberal. Oh , they tax the Conservative and give it to the non - producers aka LIBS , but never do they dig into their own pocket and PAY!!
The main difference between a lib and a Conservative is: seeing a person in need a liberal will seek to tax some conservative and give that money to a lib, While a CONSERVATIVE seeing that same person in need , will train him and educate him so he can take care of himself and his family without begging. While he is learning these attributes , the Conservative will see he is provided for. Now, THis is the PROPER way to BUILD a NATION and DEVELOPE an INDIVIDUAL to take CARE of HIMSELF and be RESPONSIBLE!!

This is the ATTRIBUTE that made AMERICA GREAT!!, We must CLEANSE AMERICA of Obamaism, flush it down the sewers and begin to restore DECENCY to AMERICA!!! "2010 is the YEAR to BEGIN"

LOL,LOL,LOL--- Yea , I hear you!! LOL,LOL - "DRINKS on the HOUSE", but noone has a ladder! LOL,LOL

Had breakfast with a business associate. The difference between conservatives and liberal/progressives was clearly displayed during our conversation.

This fairly accomplished liberal middle aged man believes the government is better at handling things like health care then the private sector. Of course, I believe the opposite. There in lies the difference.

Liberals see corruption everywhere in the private sector.

Conservatives see corruption everywhere in the public sector.

"Never the twain shall meet."

Was it anything like Breakfast at Tiffany's? what did you guys eat while discussing politics? I bet it was hotcakes and sausage for the gipper with some jelly beans sprinkled on top right?mmmmmmmmmm man that sounds good right about now.

No, George spent trillions killing folks in the 3rd world and trashed our economy. Why would you expect Obie to be able to fix that in one year when he's following the Bush plan and continuing the war while bailing out the rich people? Obie has saved the jobs of the big banks, hasn't he? Give the guy some credit, AIG and Goldman Sachs are doing real well.
