More Polarized Views of the NRA’s Influence

Two years after the failure of Senate legislation to expand background checks on gun purchases, the public continues to overwhelmingly support making private gun sales and sales at gun shows subject to background checks. Currently, 85% of Americans – including large majorities of Democrats (88%) and Republicans (79%) – favor expanded background checks, little changed from May 2013 (81%).

The latest Pew Research Center poll of 2,002 adults, conducted July 14-20, finds that opinions about other gun policy proposals also are largely unchanged from two years ago, shortly after the December 2012 school shootings in Newtown, Conn.

Nearly eight-in-ten (79%) favor laws to prevent people with mental illness from purchasing guns, 70% back the creation of a federal database to track all gun sales, while a smaller majority (57%) supports a ban on assault-style weapons.

Almost identical shares of Republicans (81%) and Democrats (79%) support laws to prevent the mentally ill from buying guns. But other proposals are more divisive: 85% of Democrats favor creation of a database for the federal government to track gun sales, compared with 55% of Republicans. And while 70% of Democrats back an assault-weapons ban, only about half of Republicans (48%) favor this proposal.

Well if that were so it would be easy to amend the constitution to allow it.
Don't see any sign of that happening.

Not sure what you are talking about, however, if what you say now is true then why is the right wing always whining about losing their guns?

Doesn't take money nor can money stop it. Fact is, the citizens aren't interested.

And just when I thought you could not get any more stupid.

"More directly, over time, almost any question that we or other pollsters ask Americans about background check laws and other ways of restricting access to guns gets very high support levels. In the October poll, 86% of Americans favored "a law which would require universal background checks for all gun purchases in the U.S. using a centralized database across all 50 states." A recent Quinnipiac poll found 77% support for banning gun sales to those on terrorist watch lists -- a measure proposed by a number of Democratic senators in the last several days. Prior Gallup polling has found strong support for increasing penalties for those who buy guns for others who have not passed background checks, banning the possession of armor-piercing bullets, requiring background checks for those purchasing guns at gun shows, and restricting purchase of high-capacity ammunition clips.

Americans, in short, would be totally on board if Congress were to pass more restrictive background check laws."

Back to some poll since your money meme collapsed.
Still no action trap. Just moaning on Facebook and nothing more.
If people won't so much as send a tweet to their representative then they just don't care.
People will send a tweet when a dog farts. It's as close to a no effort gesture as possible and they won't even do it.

The fact is Americans like their guns.
Some countries such as mine have extremely strict gun laws - if there is public laws regarding ownership and carrying them around...there will be issues.
In the world we live in today, carrying a weapon is a sensible thing, unless - like me...you're a natural born weapon. :p

There certainly are those who feel strongly for as well as against but more significantly most don't care enough to consider change.

Agreed.
In the UK many people would love to carry a weapon such as a gun for self defence but the Government would never agree to that.
One thing that is becoming more popular is tactical pens, however if the police know you carry one - this is an arrest offence.
In the UK if someone attacks you, don't defend yourself as the attacker is likely to sue you for assault.
Attackers have won in the past here.

Aikido is a good option. If you do it right it's only by their action that they get hurt.
