Had to look up tautological, good usage! We assume all existance began with a set of circumstances aligned with what we know of reality and senses, therefore our dieties exhibit powers we understand or can entertain and emote in such a way as to be personified. All uniquely human traits--such arrogance. Not trying to be metaphysical, quantum mechanics is leading us to new paradyms and I believe we have only scratched the surface, while this is not specifically the search for the first mover, it may lead to a path to understanding.

Thanks. It seems that the idea of god according to ThisTooShallPass is quite different than what 99.9% of Americans think. I use "god" here in lower case because Aquinas's idea of god as a "first mover" is nothing that you should pay reverence to because that god has no influence on anything in our physical universe. To me it is just playing with words to get a vacuous definition. So there is no point in praying or reading the Bible if that is the only concept of god that you are dealing with.

The connection from god to God is a leap that ThisTooShallPass would not make.

If we consider that God does exist, I don't think there is a finer liturgy than ignoring religion and replacing it with a study of quantum mechanics, evolution, cosmology, etc.

I think it's pretty unlikely that any of the Gods (capital G) that humans have created actually exist. On the other hand, it is quite likely that gods (small g) to do exist.

When we die, we'll all be surprised, unless, of course, the atheist are correct. It that is so, then none of us will ever know anyway.

So, why worry about it now?

Human gods created by humans are not real gods.

Either the universe or God has always existed. It is more likely that some amount of combined energy and matter, and perhaps dark matter has ALWAYS existed in one form or another.

I don't think the idea that matter and/or energy has always existed without a beginning is scientific.

No one can prove that God exists, nor can anyone prove that God does not exist.
Science is how we determine such things.

For example, how would science prove that unicorns exist?
Only by producing two (since the question is plural) or more unicorns.

Can science prove that unicorns do NOT exist?
No, it cannot. It can only say that no credible example of a living unicorn has ever been produced.
So a unicorn MIGHT exist, as no one can prove that anything does not exist.

The same is true of God.
No physical evidence of God has ever been produced.
However, that does not rule out the possibility that somewhere, God MAY exist.

It is a matter for belief or disbelief, NOT science.

Should science's inability to prove God was not involved in the creation of the universe and life on earth be made undebatable by simply bringing up nonsense about things like unicorns?

The probability of the existence of unicorns is equal to the probability that God exists.
Science cannot prove that God exists because there is no proof that he does... just like unicorns.

I don't think you understand the invalidity of your argument.

Science is as dumb as a stump when it comes to matters it cannot see, taste, smell, or touch. Of course science cannot prove life on earth began without outside help.

Science does not take any stand on the existence or nonexistence of God. It only tells us that there is no evidence that God exists-- in the same way that it says that there is no proof that unicorns exist.

According to the Bible, allegedly written by or inspired by God, God appears to Moses, several prophets and Jesus. Of course when Jesus asks, "Why have you forsaken me?" , God is totally mute, he does not say diddly.

How can science say anything about God if everyone knows it is incapable of discerning anything about God at all? Science is as dumb as a brick about God, but scientists should admit God does not need scientific proof in order to exist.

Science only says that there is no proof for the existence of God and no proof for the non existence of God.

Why is it not absurd to claim, that the entire vast universe was created only for one sect of one species on a rather mall word in a minor galaxy?

You can claim Pinocchio created the universe if you want to so you should not get bent out of shape if millions of Christians believe God created the universe.

You don't believe in unicorns and leprechauns because there's no evidence. Why would anyone believe there's a god with no evidence
That's just how gullible godbotherers.

Furthermore, there's no evidence a god created the universe or anything in it. You can rattle on with his wonderful it is etc, but it doesn't prove god did it. That assumption is based on ignorance and fear of death.

There's been many attempts to link god with science discoveries but every one has failed. Science has never wasted a minute researching anything religious for the obvious reasons.

Immaculate conception and miracles and walking on water and resurrections and virgin births and dead men walking and a woman turned into salt???

Don't make me laugh. Little wonder you're laughed at.
